TRYFAN: Revolutionising Off-Grid Power Solutions for Outdoor Enthusiasts
Outdoor adventurers face the constant challenge of staying powered while exploring remote locations. Carrying multiple portable chargers is often cumbersome and adds unnecessary weight to their gear. Recognising this problem, Norwich-based designer Jack Courtier has created TRYFAN, a lightweight and compact portable device that generates electricity using a savonius turbine, specifically designed for walkers, climbers, and those who enjoy going off-grid.

TRYFAN addresses the critical need for a reliable, efficient, and eco-friendly power source for the outdoor enthusiast. Inspired by his personal experiences in wild camping and hiking, TRYFAN offers a practical solution to the challenges of keeping electronic devices such as cameras, torches and phones charged during extended outdoor adventures.

TRYFAN utilises a savonius turbine design to efficiently capture wind energy, converting it into electricity stored in a 12,000 mAh battery with a bespoke Maximum Power Point  Tracking (MPPT) PCB for optimal charging efficiency. Crafted from injection-moulded ABS, TRYFAN is durable and waterproof, featuring protected USB-C ports. Its lightweight, compact design, including a hinged turbine for easy storage, fits seamlessly into walking bags, while multiple bases ensure stability in various environments. Emphasising simplicity and reliability, TRYFAN provides streamlined functionality for generating renewable energy with minimal effort.

"TRYFAN is a tool that not only meets the practical needs of outdoor enthusiasts but also promotes sustainable energy usage. The goal was to make renewable energy accessible, reliable, and easy to use, no matter where your adventures take you."

TRYFAN is poised to become an essential item for anyone venturing off the grid, providing a sustainable solution to power electronic devices in remote locations, giving the adventurer more freedom to explore no matter the environment.
