Another Milestone for Miniaturization and Precision from GEYER Electronic
GEYER Electronic has introduced the KX-2 crystal to their frequency component product portfolio - a new ultra-compact quartz crystal range measuring only 1.0 x 0.8 x 0.34 mm, and currently one of the smallest quartz crystals in its category on the electronics market.

This tiny crystal has been developed for high-tech applications in the consumer and industrial sectors, where space saving and accuracy are the major challenges. It supports all dedicated BUS systems and energy-efficient microcontrollers that contribute to the reduction of power consumption for portable devices in modern wireless communications.

The technical characteristics of the KX-2 make it suitable for a range of applications extending from wearables and consumer goods to medical technology, metering devices and IoT applications. Typical uses might include small battery-operated devices such as hearing devices and WiFi modules.

Technical Specifications of the KX-2 include:

  • 40MHz to 100 MHz Frequency range
  • 10 ppm Frequency Accuracy at 25°C
  • Tolerances of 10, 15 or 20 ppm respectively over the temperature range
  • Working temperature range of -40 to 85°C with support for increased temperature to 105°C
  • Typical Load capacities of 4 pF or 6 pF
  • Low ESR values of 30 Ohm typ./50 Ohm max.
  • Support for all common wireless communication protocols

The KX-2 can be used alongside the ultra-miniature KX-327VT tuning fork crystal when the board requires a real-time clock crystal to fit the same space-limiting restrictions. The KX-327VT comes in a 1.25 x 1.05 x 0.5mm package size, with a standard working temperature range of -40 to 85°C, a frequency tolerance of 20ppm at +25°C and a choice of load capacitances between 5pF and 12.5pF. It is the ideal partner for the KX-2 crystal range or an equally recommendable complement to GEYER Electronic’s slightly larger KX-3 crystal range.

The KX-3 crystal measures 1.2 x 1.0 x 0.35mm and offers a slightly lower frequency range of 26MHz to 60MHz with tolerances, working temperatures and load capacitances similar to those of the KX-2. Designed especially for IoT applications in the field of wireless LAN, Bluetooth, Zigbee, Short Range Wireless, mobile communication and Wearables, the KX-3 was awarded 3rd prize by the German journal ‘ELEKTRONIK’ in their Product of the Year 2019 awards.

Samples of the 48MHz KX-2 crystal and variants of both the KX-327VT and KX-3 are offered from stock by GEYER Electronic for evaluation and prototype builds, and engineers can freely download the GEYER Y-quartz app to analyse the behaviour of their chosen crystal and optimise their circuit, thereby addressing possible technical challenges in advance of any physical build. Support from the GEYER Design and Test Department and sales team is available throughout all stages of the project - for advice and consultation during initial design and development, circuit validation at the final stages of the design, and at anytime during production should an unexpected challenge arise.  In addition, GEYER Electronic guarantees product availability throughout the lifetime of the project.
