Rated current values found on datasheets serve as a guide for the selection of passive magnetic components. However, the temperature rise in these components can be influenced by many factors that are not always reported in datasheets by all manufacturers. This gives a false sense of what the rated current values represent.

In this presentation, we aim to introduce a new measurement for rated current adopted by Wurth electronics, based on standard IEC 62024-2:2020. In addition, we provide an online tool for calculating rated current based on PCB/Track dimensions. This gives an accurate measurement for rated current as well as your own design value.
